State Archives Gate

Founded in 1808, the State Archive of Naples was once one of the most important and ancient centers for Benedictine spirituality in the South of Italy.

With its four floors and storage units of over 70 linear kilometers of historical documents, the Neapolitan Archives represent an essential point of reference for research on the medieval, modern and contemporary history of Italy and Europe and, in particular, the history of Southern Italy itself.

Restoration of the archives included sanding, rustproofing and enamelling the iron gate supports while stripping, primer sanding and repainting were required for the wooden door. The same measures were provided for the wooden frames of the glass doors.

The finishes were painted in a greenish-brown color; a chromatic choice that simulates bronze, following the most ancient Neapolitan tradition.
