The tombstone of the family Dentice del Pesce
Inside the Cathedral in front of the Sacristy is the tombstone of the Dentice del Pesce family, built by Neapolitan marble workers in the 18th century.
A materials examination has identified elements of white Carrara, bardiglio and red and yellow marble from Verona.
The tombstone was crafted according an execution of marble inlay decorative techniques. The polychrome stone slabs have been shaped into various forms to create the overall geometric design. In accordance with traditional techniques, each element is laid on the mother slab by way of a mixture consisting of rosin and an inert carbonate-type substance.
The groundlaid tombstone is made up of two parts, an upper one with the crest of the family, and a lower one with an epigraph that reads:

The tombstone was located in front of the chapel of the Dentice family, dedicated to the “Annunziata” Virgin Mary, and was abolished during the restoration of the Cathedral promoted by Cardinal Filippo Giudice Caracciolo, archbishop of Naples between 1833-44.
The work, restored to its original decorative richness, was made possible thanks to the direct contribution of the family.
