Founded in 1808, the State Archives of Naples are one of the most important and ancient centers of Benedictine spirituality in Southern Italy.
With its four floors and over seventy linear kilometers of documents, the Neapolitan archives are an essential reference point for research in the medieval, modern, and contemporary history of Italy and Europe, and especially of Southern Italy.
The restoration and conservation of this extremely prestigious cultural jewel for the Campania city is among the projects carried out by Friends of Naples.
The work involved sanding, applying rustproofing, and enameling the iron gate supports. Both the wooden gate and the wood-and-glass door underwent paint stripping, sanding, and repainting.
The finishes were painted green-brown, a color choice that simulates bronze, in keeping with ancient Neapolitan tradition.
